We're not here to make movies by ourselves â we're here to join together everyone who does, and build the system around them they need: one that rewards passion, amplifies audience voices, and gives anyone, anywhere, the chance to shape the future of film.
INTERDEPENDENT Studios isn't a business venture. Itâs a mission â sparked by a guy from rural PA who really, really loves movies and technology, has spent the spent the past 25 years in Hollywood and around the world understanding the business and developing a solution to his extreme dissatisfaction with how money gets allocated to make movies, and what ultimately gets seen by worldwide audiences. The goal? Bring more people into the process. Not just as spectators, but as participants. Collaborators. Champions of the stories they believe in.
At the center of it all is THE LOT â our fully digital studio space where screenplays are read, trailers are watched, and decisions are made based on something radical: what the audience actually cares about. To enter, audience members purchase a ticket, which they use to get a premiere pass for the movie they find inside they're most excited about. In this way, buying a ticket isn't about funding our operationâit's casting a vote. Saying, âThis is the story I want to see on screen.â
We donât need that money to make the moviesâwe use it as proof. Proof that people care enough to pay attention now, so we can predict whoâll show up later. Every project that shows signs of at least breaking even gets the green light to make a 3-minute theatrical trailerâDecided by looking at how many people that read a screenplay convert their ticket purchase to see that movie premiere, and a host of other audience behaviors. From there, directors can adopt scripts, assemble their teams, cast actors, schedule production, and lock budgetsâall in full view of the public. Open to anyone who wants to throw their hat in the ring.Â
We havenât made a movie yet. But weâve built something thousands of people are already a part of. And we're betting itâs only the beginning. Weâre not that different from the old Hollywood studios, really. We just took their blueprint, stripped away the gatekeeping, and built something open, transparent, and powered by the people using the technology of today. A modern movie studio system for a global community.
