It’s not in Burbank. It’s not in Culver. Hell, it’s not even on Google Maps. But INTERDEPENDENT Studios — built entirely inside a collaborative whiteboard — is attracting writers, directors, and even influencers who want a say in the future of film.
The entire operation lives inside a digital collaboration space, where screenwriters upload scripts, influencers react via video, and AI sorts through the noise to help decide which films get made. And it all starts in something the studio calls "The Lot" — a virtual hub built in Miro that looks more like a game map than a studio backlot.
"We’re rethinking what a studio is," says founder Chris Amell. "This isn’t a website. It’s not a portal. It’s a fully-functioning studio where everyone can see everything happening in real time."
Writers, directors, and readers enter The Lot through a virtual ticket booth. From there, they can move through digital buildings — the Scriptography Room, the Greenroom, even a virtual table read space — as if they were walking a real set. But unlike traditional sets, this one is open to anyone, anywhere.
With its first season of films underway and an ever-expanding creative community, INTERDEPENDENT’s mission is clear: build a better Hollywood. One that’s decentralized, transparent, and powered by people who truly care about what gets made.
